The majestic Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve, only an hour from Cape Town offers the perfect day hike for outdoor activity lovers and adrenaline seekers.

The first part of the hike (about 2 hrs) goes through rustic fynbos filled hills and is fairly easy. The first part of the hike is like the silence before the storm. The real adventure starts when the wide gorge is reached. The only way to complete the hike is to jump off cliffs and waterfalls in order to reach the car park again. This hike is not for the faint hearted. Some of the nine jumps are over 10 meters, with the highest one being 14 meters high.  Hectic bru!

On attempting the hike one must be fit enough, strong enough, and willing to do some canyoning or as locals say: kloofing. This hike will guarantee walking, scrambling, climbing, jumping, and swimming – and has no point of return after the third jump. So if you would decide to do this hike, be sure you are able and willing to do all of the points mentioned. At the end of the day every gram of courage will be rewarded greatly. This is one of the most epic outdoor daytrip experiences to be had in the Western Cape. But with a little of bravery and courage this 17 km hike (8hrs) will be completed with great satisfaction.

If you’re a thrill seeker and love hiking and biking in the outdoors, AWOL Tours will be glad to provide you with more information about this profound hiking experience.
