About This Tour

Cape Town and its surrounding winelands offer some of the most varied and spectacular mountain biking terrain in the world, and our guided tours are designed to help visitors discover it safely and enjoyably. Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned rider, we'll match you to the right trail and the right challenge, from easy-going jeep track at the foot of iconic Table Mountain, to flowing cross-country routes through the vineyards, all the way up to double black diamond technical trails for the adrenaline junkies among us. No local knowledge is required; our experienced guides know the terrain intimately and will guide you on the perfect route for your ability and interests.

Yes. Private guiding allows AWOL to choose the route, pace, distance and climbing for the rider or group instead of forcing different abilities onto one fixed trail.

Yes, provided every guest can control a bicycle safely. Beginner-friendly greenbelt and jeep-track options are available, while experienced riders can request longer climbs and technical singletrack. AWOL will not place a guest on a trail that exceeds the guide's safety assessment.

Possible areas include the Constantia Greenbelt for easier riding, Signal Hill and Table Mountain for climbs and jeep track, Tokai and Silvermine for intermediate trails, Durbanville for flowing singletrack, and Jonkershoek or the Winelands for varied scenic and technical options. Route access and permits can change.

Send each rider's height, preferred distance, acceptable climbing, fitness and technical ability, experience with singletrack and descents, pedal preference, brake setup, medical considerations and accommodation details.

A quality hardtail mountain bike and helmet are included in the standard package. This suits gravel, jeep track and lighter trails.

Yes. Hardtail e-bikes, full-suspension bikes and full-suspension e-bikes may be available for an additional charge. Reserve early because sizes and specialist models are limited.

Private guiding, return accommodation transfers, the standard mountain bike, helmet, trail permits, entrance fees, snacks and bottled water are normally included. Lunch and specialist protective equipment are not included unless stated.

Yes. A solo private rate applies. AWOL may occasionally be able to match riders of similar ability, but this should never be assumed when booking.

Yes, after AWOL confirms ages, heights, experience and equipment. A private guide can shorten the route, reduce technical sections and use easier trails.

Flat pedals are standard. SPD pedals may be arranged in advance. Full-face helmets and specialist body protection are not standard inclusions, so experienced riders should confirm requirements before travelling.
