AWOL goes Argus

At AWOL Tours it’s not just cycling and hiking adventures around scenic sights in Cape Town, it’s about a close knit team that work hard together to raise funds for charity! This year the Argus Cycle Tour put the AWOL Team to the test on the 109km challenge around the Cape Peninsula in strong winds with 35,000 other entrants.

This is a big Cape Town event on the social calendar whether you are cycling, supporting on the side or just gathering with your friends; everyone gets involved and as most of the main roads are closed to motor vehicles there is really no other place to go.

AWOL Tours cycled the Argus in support of SAFE and as part of our fund raising efforts we asked our sponsors to try and guess the total time it would take for all of the team to complete the Argus. The person closest to the time would win the brilliant AWOL 2 Day Cape Peninsula prize.

Being first in the team to cross the line at the finish with a time of 4h 21 minutes was Dave followed closely by Morgan, Sally, Meike and Jeremy, eventually Leo and Mark joined them for a victory beer soon thereafter Renata completed in good time just under 7 hours.

zwai finishes argus

Only two of the AWOL team didn’t cross the finish line, Zwai retired from the race with a knee injury after a fall and Marketing Manager Helen but it was later discovered she was enjoying ample Guinness with the last die hard supporters on Chapman’s Peak drive and not feeling too sorry for herself for missing the last cut off point and being removed from the race.

Our total time was 54 hours and 75 minutes. The closest guess was 56hrs 38 minutes by Mrs Aschenbroich from Germany who wins an AWOL cycling holiday.

AWOL Tours thanks our friends and families for all the support and our sponsors who donated generously to the SAFE cause of their sustainable approach to education.
